Dr. Matt Gerber

Dr. Gerber is the Glenn R. Capp Endowed Chair of Forensics and Director of Debate at Baylor. He is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Studies. Matt holds the Ph.D. from the University of Kansas, where he helped to coach a first-round team to the NDT. He also has a Master's degree from Baylor ('99). Dr. Gerber was a three-time N.D.T. qualifier at Southeastern Oklahoma State University as an undergraduate. Gerber has been teaching and coaching at Baylor since 2003.

Dr. Scott Varda

Dr. Varda is the Associate Director of Debate and Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication. Scott holds a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa, where he coached a first-round at large team to the NDT. He also coached successful teams at Florida State University. Scott was a multiple-time NDT qualifier himself at Illinois State University. Dr. Varda has been teaching and coaching at Baylor since 2007.

Amanda Luppes

Amanda is in her second year of Master's work at Baylor. Originally from Apple Valley, Minnesota, during her career at Baylor, Amanda qualified for the 2009 NDT, and among many accomplishments, won the Wichita State tournament, made it to Semis of Wayne State, Quarters of Las Vegas, Octas at North Texas, and Doubles at UT-Dallas. Amanda capped her career at Baylor by posting a 5-3 record at the 2010 NDT, winning all four affirmative prelim debates.

Alex McVey

Alex is a second-year MA candidate and assistant coach at Baylor. Alex, who hails from Olathe, Kansas is a two-time qualifier to the NDT, and the highlight of his 2008-2009 season was posting a 6-2 record and debating into the Sweet 16 at CEDA Nationals. He and his partner lost a 2-1 decision to the defending national champions in the Octafinals. Alex capped his career by winning the 2010 District 3 title, being named top speaker at that tournament, and clearing at both the 2010 NDT and CEDA Nationals.

Kyle is second-year MA student and assistant debate coach for Baylor. Kyle debated for the University of Iowa as an undergraduate and reached the elimination rounds at the 2010 NDT.

Jeff started his MA at Baylor in the Fall of 2011. Jeff had a successful debate career at the University of Pittsburgh.
